Hello Folks,

My name is Matthew and I have been very moved reading the posts. I am reflecting on the courage it takes to deal with the mental and physical unpleasantness associated with psychiatric drug withdrawal. For anyone, myself included, who would like to be a beacon of support to anyone who is experiencing this process or even considering it, I believe it is so very important to have discernment. This is implicit in what you have conveyed so far Chaya. It is so important and something that I often forget. If we think of human beings as musical instruments, and maintaining health (in nutrition, for instance) a bit like the tuning process, it seems to me that coming off of medication can be like tuning for a more complex musical composition. Sometimes, it must be tuned for comfort; at times for vitamin intake, at times for stability, at times for exploration/creativity, and at times for strength. It's as complex a process as...well, as humans are humans. I can not say enough of how encouraged I am by what you folks have written of your experience; of your willingness to do despite the challenge. I feel that I have a great deal to learn from all of you.

The nutritional ideas in your posts and in the course are sound and I don't need to confuse them. I will say that I am great lover of frozen peas and I can offer a homespun recipe of my own:

A different type of peas pudding

1 - 400gr package of frozen peas

1 - lemon juiced

1/6 cup olive oil (roughly)

sea salt to taste

(or skip the oil and sea salt and do olives to taste)

Preparation:

Warm the peas in hot water. Drain and add to a blender with the other ingredients. Blend until smooth. Enjoy!

hi everyone ☺️

I gained 20kgs while taking clozapine. I spent the last year counting calories and eating a low calorie diet to try to manage my weight. This lowered my energy, my mood and my concentration.

Then I began preparing myself for coming off meds and I realised that during withdrawal I would need energy to manage changes in thoughts, emotions and experiences. So I stopped counting calories and eating low calories and began to listen to and nourish my body with adequate energy. This made the world of difference.

So I needed to accept my body as it is even if my weight is higher than it has been in my life. I trust as I come off meds it will return to my normal weight. I remind myself to be patient.

If I was supporting someone coming off meds who was dealing with weight gain caused by psych meds I would encourage them to eat a wide range of nutritious foods and to not diet, to give them enough energy to manage the withdrawal process. And I would encourage them to practice unconditional self love and body acceptance.

Peace to you💫💫💫

Hi dear souls💖🌸💫

So I spent quite some time in my life as a vegan or vegetarian. I also tried raw vegan. I really tried to make these work. I was very influenced by other people and social media. Yet my intuition kept telling me to be an omnivore. And eventually I listened to my intuition and did just that. This feels best for me on many levels. Being very grateful for animal protein helps.

If I was guiding someone around nutrition who was coming off meds I would encourage them to listen to their bodies, their intuition and what feels best for them. I would encourage them not to push themselves or be overly influenced by others but to eat in a way that feels most peaceful and joyful and energising for them. Sometimes we need to try a few ways of eating before we find our way and that’s ok too. Life does not need to be perfect to be wonderful!

Big blessings 🦋🐬🧚🏻‍♀️

So I need to be aware of doing Vata pacifying actions and diet as I withdraw.

I sense that coming off psych meds would trigger a Vata state in many people- more anxiety and insomnia, less appetite and weight loss, heightened sensitivity. So having grounding foods like root veggies and protein and healthy fats and doing soothing, relaxing, gentle activities and taking naps and spending time in nature.

Does anyone else find their constitution is dramatically shifted due to medications?

Blessings to All!

Namaste🌸🌸🌸

Hi my name is Prudence

I have found that unconditional intuitive eating during withdrawal nourishes me most. So this is listening to my hunger and fullness and eating from all food groups as feels best for me. This includes eating sugar and processed foods. I find as I listen to my body I find a natural and healthy balance.

One of the reasons I choose to eat in this way is because I used to have an eating disorder- I had anorexia and bulimia for 12 years when I was young. I have now been in recovery for over a decade and yet eating in a way that honours my body is very important to me physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually.

I also find that as I take my journey coming off psych meds that I lose my appetite and I find it helpful to eat foods that I find comforting and enjoyable-perhaps foods from my childhood.

I can still incorporate many of the nourishing guidelines about nutrition from Chaya’s guidance in the nutrition module, I simply listen to my intuition around what feels best for me.

I also feel that when it comes to eating and making food choices body positivity is an important part of that for me. I still have moments of discomfort in my body even though I love and appreciate my body. Loving my body helps me to trust my body and nourish it with food.

Does anyone else on this forum eat intuitively and practice body positivity?

I send you all blessings!

Namaste
